S3 - Supporting Student Success

Oregon's Vision for Supporting Student Success through Expanded Learning Opportunities

The Oregon S3 Team was a grant funded project to conduct a complete review of existing after school programs, federal and state funding streams, and the current Oregon statutes that have relevance to after school expanded learning opportunities. During the eighteen-month period of the grant, the Team and the agency staff supporting that team constructed a state report with recommendations for system integration and policy change.

The S3 Team worked toward the following outcomes:

Expected Outcome: Identification and alignment of current Oregon statutes regarding after school, expanded learning opportunities, and school-age childcare programs. The Afterschool Nutrition Initiative will be our first area of focus.

* Changes to the At-Risk Snack/Supper Program (which is a component of the Child and Adult Care Food Program):
* The Summer Food Service Program ("simplified" and traditional)
* Connections to 21st CCLC

Expected Outcome: Establishment of data collection processes on expanded learning opportunities in the State of Oregon

Expected Outcome: Funding for and the creation of pilot projects to promote increased coordination at the local level.
